Body of Missing Woman recovered in Jefferson County

05/27/2010

At approximately 7:12 p.m., on May 23rd, 2010, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a blue 2005 Toyota RAV 4 SUV, stuck in a field north of 102nd Street, off of the old railroad right-of-way. ATV riders found the vehicle stuck and called the Sheriff's office. The officers had the vehicle towed from the area and attempted to contact the owner, who lives at 900 SW Robinson Street, Apt 1201 in Topeka, Kansas. When no answer was received at the residence by the Sheriff's office, contact was made with the Topeka Police Department, who advised the owner of the vehicle was reported missing on May 20th, 2010, and had not been seen since May 15th. On May 24th at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff's office, along with the Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter, conducted a search of the area where the vehicle was located, north of 102nd street. At approximately 9:29 a.m., the Sheriff's office located a body of a white female in the area southeast of where the vehicle was recovered. The body was later identified as Lauren Forstein, a 44 year old from Topeka, Kansas. The Sheriff's Office is awaiting the pathologist report for cause of death. There was nothing at the scene to lead Law Enforcement to believe that foul play was involved.
