Hunting Accident

At approximately 11:42 a.m. on Saturday December 8th, 2012, Jefferson County Emergency Communications received a report from Atchison County Memorial Hospital in regards to a hunter having been accidentally shot at the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks public hunting area west of Valley Falls, Kansas.  The injured hunter was identified as 51 year old Michael Gaddis of Kansas City, Kansas.

Gaddis, who was hunting alone, had finished deer hunting for the day at approximately 10:00 a.m. and was walking back to his vehicle when he was struck in the back of his legs by birdshot from a shotgun.  Gaddis transported himself to the Atchison County Memorial Hospital where he is receiving treatment for injuries that are not considered to be life threatening.

Officers from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, along with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, are conducting the investigation into this incident.
