On June 14, 2017 at approximately 8:23 pm, Jefferson County Communications received a call of a possible drowning at Devil's Gap in the Slough Creek Park of Perry Lake.

It was reported the victim was swimming to retrieve a beach ball, when he went under and did not resurface.

Kansas Wildlife and Parks and The Corp of Engineers used boats with side scan sonar equipment to search the area where the victim was last seen.

Sheriff Herrig called the search off at 11:30 pm due to weather conditions.

On June 15, 2017 at  7:00 am, the search resumed with Kansas Wildlife and Parks' boats.

At 10:06 am, Divers from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office entered the water.

At 10:20 am, the body of 19 year old Adam Perkins of Grantville, Kansas was recovered.
